What is titanium anodization?
Anodization is a process in which a thin, controlled layer of oxides is formed on the surface of titanium.
It is responsible for the visible color – it is not an additional paint or “varnish”.
The color is created by selecting process parameters (e.g. voltage), thanks to which the titanium can obtain different shades,
including gold .
- the color results from the surface optics , not from the dye
- no "paint" = natural metal appearance
- The golden shade may vary slightly depending on the model and lighting.
G23 Titanium – why is it a great base for piercing?
Titanium G23 (ASTM F136) is an implantable variety of titanium, also used in medicine.
It is valued in piercing for its high biocompatibility, lightness and comfort of wearing.
This material is often chosen by people with sensitive skin and for fresh piercings.
Anodization vs. PVD – what's the difference?
These are two different approaches to color:
-
Anodization – the color is the result of changing the oxide layer on the titanium surface (without an additional color coating).
-
PVD – the color comes from a thin finishing layer applied to the surface (which gives a very even, “jewelry-like” effect).
If you want a gold shade in a more "metallic", natural version - anodization will be a great choice.
If you want a very uniform gold finish, PVD is more often chosen.
